In the year 2020, the world will be more connected, wireless networks will connect more machines than people and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technology will help us to be more energy and cost efficient, safer and more secure. This is the era of connected intelligence. The number of mobile connections is forecast by the GSM association to grow to 50 billion by the end of the decade. There will be several trillion wirelessly connected things, according to the Wireless World Research Forum. This increased use of mobile and M2M technology will deliver as much as $100 billion of annual savings thanks to material and energy efficiency savings.

What is M2M?

M2M refers to technologies that allow both wireless and wired systems to communicate with other devices of the same ability. M2M uses a device (such as a sensor or meter) to capture an event (such as temperature, inventory level, etc.), which is relayed through a network (wireless, wired or hybrid) to an application (software program), that translates the captured event into meaningful information. Modern M2M communication has expanded beyond a one-to-one connection and changed into a system of networks that transmits data to personal appliances. The expansion of IP networks across the world has made it far easier for M2M communication to take place and has lessened the amount of power and time necessary for information to be communicated between machines.

REMOTEWORX® M2M Driver

The REMOTEWORX® M2M driver delivers affordable, global end-to-end IP data connectivity in industry sectors, such as environmental monitoring, SmartGrid, pipeline monitoring, machine monitoring, mining, water utilities, telecommunications, building and facilities management sectors. This solution was designed to provide customers wishing to deploy an M2M system by taking away the headaches of having to design around telecommunication infrastructure and provides one of the first global network independent platforms in the M2M space.

What REMOTEWORX® offers is a flexible low cost combination of hardware and software, designed to work in unison. Allowing customers to build M2M solutions to suit virtually any industry. Making it unnecessary to worry about any of the bi-directional communication issues and one can therefore focus on what they know best, solving customer challenges and adding value throughout the process.

The REMOTEWORX® I/O SERVER is an object oriented software that allows the data from the board to be mapped into the cloud or the owner can host their own solution and is built on Adroit SCADA software.

REMOTEWORX® M2M SERVER

”The Internet of Everything (IOE)is a global industry phenomenon, where the intelligent networked connections between people, process, data, and things make networked connections more relevant and valuable than ever before.” - Wim Elfrink (Cisco)

With over 25 years’ experience in delivering scalable SCADA solutions into industries such as water and waste water, utilities, oil and gas, mining, telecommunications and a host of other industries, Adroit Technologies was the perfect partner for the RemoteWor® M2M platform. The Adroit SCADA product is a state-of-the-art, flexible, and scalable solution that compliments the REMOTEWORX® I/O Board as it manages the connectivity between the devices. Allowing users post process data from the field as well as offer standard alarming, logging of the data into either its own or industry standard OLE databases.

The Agent/Object architecture within the I/O Server offers a lot more built-in functionality such as scripting, transacting data into databases etc. saving users massive development time.

The built-in .NET based User Interface Designer allows users to build point-to-point or full business scale applications and have these available, securely over the internet.

M2M Protocol

With over 25 years’ experience in telemetry systems Adroit Technologies developed the M2M driver. The driver was designed to include all the best features and requirements for an M2M solution.

The KEY DIFFERENTIATOR of the M2M driver is that the device is the master of the communications. This means that the device establishes the remote connection, not the I/O server. This is critical in making sure that customers have the flexibility of using any network provider. One does NOT need to contract and establish any APN but can in fact run your M2M off any data SIM card, from any network, anywhere in the world. This makes the REMOTEWORX® M2M Platform and extremely viable solution for customers wishing to deploy their solution globally.

Being an established communications manager, features of the driver are:

Remote Configuration and Monitoring: The M2M driver provides remote communication with REMOTEWORX® without the presence of an on-site technician. The operator can monitor and control an individual or group of devices through the SCADA interface. This solution can also allow a technician to do remote programing of REMOTEWORX®. No need for the technician to go out to site to do any program changes.

Link Manager:

The intelligent M2M driver automatically monitors the connection between the I/O Server and any REMOTEWORX® board, without the need to poll or establish a connection to the device. The operator will be notified if the link goes down or comes up, giving an indication that there is possibly a communication problem. These Diagnostics and management information on communications is available for any device on the M2M network.

No Fixed IP Required:

The REMOTEWORX® M2M solution does not require a fixed IP or Dynamic DNS middleware. This means you can use this solution on any GPRS network and not require a static IP from your ISP (Internet Service Provider). The only fixed IP required is at the REMOTEWORX® I/O Server.
Low Bandwidth Impact: REMOTEWORX® M2M offers efficient communications with cost effective data transfer costs. REMOTEWORX® can be configured to send data on a time interval, when storage buffer limits are reached or manually polled. Event and alarm data is transmitted to the SCADA immediately. Communications can be set to ”live” mode which will show real time data. This gives users a complete capability of managing what and how much data is transferred.

Management Information:

Statistics of how much data is transferred gives users the ability to identify and manage costs around their M2M solution.
